COVID-19 Return to Track Plan
WELCOME TO COCHRANE BMX
Our 2021 season is going to start with similar restrictions to 2020. There are many factors in Alberta that continue to evolve, but we are happy to have the opportunity to start our season We expect that our plan for 2021 will be fluid, and we will make adjustments and ease the COVID restrictions as we are permitted. As part of our ability to open for 2021, we must all commit to the restrictions set out by AHS, the Alberta government and our governing body, the Alberta Bicycle Association. We know some of these rules and protocols change the face of our sport, but we ask that all of our riders do their part to help us provide a safe place for everyone to ride their bikes.
PLEASE READ THROUGH THE INFORMATION BELOW. FOLLOWING THE GUIDELINES OUTLINED BELOW WILL ENSURE OUR ABILITY TO OPEN THE TRACK FOR RIDING THIS SUMMER.

Rider Injury Plan
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ANY OF OUR COVID RETURN TO SPORT PLAN, PLEASE EMAIL US AT: [email protected]
- There will be a maximum number of riders permitted per each open track session. Restrictions on outdoor gatherings are ever changing. Currently, there can be no more than 10 person groupings in an area, which includes riders, parents, and volunteers. At this time, this means 9 riders and 1 gate operator can be on the track at a time. No exceptions.
- Riders MUST sign up online forevery track session. No walk-ups will be permitted. No exceptions.
- We need to limit spectators at the track (non-riding siblings and parents can accompany rider to the track but at this time we ask extended family members and friends wait until restrictions are further eased to join us). We know this is not ideal and we apologize. We hope this restriction will ease early in the season.
- Minimize your time at the track and in the parking lot by preparing your bike and personal gear at home, so you only need to unload your bike when you arrive at the grounds.
- Do not arrive early or stay after your track session is finished. Please do not arrive earlier than 10 minutes before your session starts. Once you have arrived, please remain at your vehicle until the gate is open. You will not proceed to the track until you have been checked in at the front gate.
- After your ride, load up and leave the facility as soon as possible.
Physical Distancing
- A minimum of 2 meter distance must be maintained at all times between all riders, officials and volunteers off of the track (with anyone outside your household). If this is not possible, masks must be worn.
- Riders are not required to distance from other from other riders while on the track and while warming up/cooling down around the track.
- There will be continuous forward movement on the track. Once a rider has left the staging area, there will be no stopping in any parts of the track permitted.
- Riders should return to their parents/vehicle for water/snack breaks. Please ensure physical distancing is maintained during any breaks. Physical distancing is imperative and we thank you in advance for complying.
- It is expected that non-riding/volunteering parents will find an appropriate physically distanced space to wait for and watch your rider(s). We encourage parents to bring their own chairs and set up at a safe distance from the track and others from outside your household during your rider’s session. The bleachers are open and 2 meter distancing must be maintained if you choose to use them. Please note they are not being cleaned or maintained at this time.
- There is no spectator access to the observation deck on the start hill.
Masks
- Masks are not required by riders while they are riding or spectators while they can remain distanced. We ask that everyone have a mask with them to use when distancing can not be maintained (at the motosehd, concession, bike shed).
- Flaggers must have a mask with them to use if they need to approach and assist a rider on the track.
- Masks must be worn at front gate check-in, in lower and upper staging and at the start gate (by adults/volunteers), at the motoshed, concession and bike shed.. Again, we know this is not ideal, but it is one of our requirements.
Hand Hygiene
- Each rider must bring their own hand sanitizer, must sanitize their hands when arriving on site, and again when leaving.
- Avoid touching benches, fences, railings, etc. unless absolutely necessary. If you must touch gates in order to open, then use hand sanitizer immediately as well as spray gate with disinfecting spray.
- Avoid touching your face.
Respiratory Etiquette
- Sneeze or cough into your elbow .
- No spitting or clearing of nasal passages.
Equipment, Gear and Tools
- Each rider is expected to bring their own bike, gear and riding equipment. Riders must not share bikes, personal equipment or tools.
- Do not share any equipment and don’t ask anyone to hold items for you (phones, water bottles, gloves).
- There will be NO use of Cochrane BMX loaner equipment (bikes, helmets, gloves) this season. All riders MUST have all their own equipment and bikes to ride.
- Each rider will bring their own water and snacks. There will be no concession onsite, or sharing of food/water.
- There will be no access to indoor facilities, such as the motoshed or bike shed.
- Please ensure your riders have used the bathroom prior to coming to the track. Please note, the porte-potties will not be cleaned after each use and we ask you consider your individual risk tolerance before using. If using them, please sanitize your hands before going in and after coming out.
- At this time, the Pro-set is open for Junior Elite and Elite riders only.
- If you do not adhere to these protocols, the COVID-19 official will warn you once. If you do not comply, the official will ask you to leave immediately.
Rider Injury Plan
- In the event of an injured (downed) rider, all efforts will be made to encourage the rider to get up on their own. If the rider gets themselves up and off the track and appears injured at all, they will be directed to return to their parents. The responder and COVID official have the right to deny any potentially injured return access to the track.
- If it is clear that a rider needs assistance, a designated responder, with PPE (Glasses, Mask, Gloves), will mask the rider and start assessment for injury.
After normal triage, if it is clear that additional medical attention is necessary, 911 will be called and the track will be closed until the rider is attended to by medical staff.
